In
1970 the Wine-growers' cooperative of Torrazza
Coste (founded in 1907) incorporates its sister
company of Codevilla (founded in 1931), thus
giving origin to the Wine growers' Cooperative
of Torrazza Coste and Codevilla with the fusion
of human and technical experience of hundreds
of members and of the historical and cultural
patrimony of more than sixty years of wine growing
and producing activities.
The head-offices are located in the Liberty-style
building in Torrazza Coste, construction which
was finished in 1908 under the guidance of Engineer
Faravelli, with the intent to house the local wine
growers' cooperative, with a holding capacity of
7.790 hl, of which 2.350 in the five reinforced
concrete tanks in the cellars under the ground
floor of the building.
During
the nineteen-eighties, after the fusion of the
two companies, both buildings of Torrazza Coste
and Codevilla were restructured in such a way that
they marked a turning point in the production technology
as well as in the commercialisation of the wines,
giving origin to TORREVILLA, a brand-name which
later became also the name of the Company.
Today TORREVILLA plays a very important role in
the Oltrepò Pavese area: it represents,
infact, the historical memory of the local economy
based on vines and wines.
Torrevilla's
products, red wines, white wines and sparkling
wines, continue to receive important acknowledgements
during numerous contests. Torrevilla has lived
in perfect health through the whole of the nineteenth
century, a century full of economical, social and
political ups and downs.
It is for this reason that Torrevilla received
the UnionCamere award on the 11th May 2006
in Rome, a prestigeous acknowledgement
for a “Longliving and succesfully
operating Company”.
In the month of May of this year TORREVILLA
will celebrate its first onehundred years
with a series of cultural and oenological
events, which will bring the Winery under
the spot-light of the wine-growing and
wine-producing world in the territory it
represents, thus strenghthening its first-class
social and economical position in it.
